The Holiday Season is a big deal here in the Thompson River country and the staff at our Kamloops moving company is immersed in practically every seasonal activity in the city. As an unofficial community liaison (seeing as we frequently welcome new households into the area) it is important for us to stay in-the-know for all that takes place within Kamloops – including the fun stuff of course. It looks like a polar bear, it sounds like a polar bear, but it’s not a polar bear – it’s a Kermode bear. This week our Kamloops moving company caught wind of a new resident moving to Kamloops. We weren’t too concerned about not being contacted for this job since it’s a little out of our league. A rare white furred Kermode bear cub named Clover, abandoned months ago but rescued and rehabilitated over the summer, was at first reintroduced to the wild of Central Northwestern BC near Terrace into the aptly named Great Bear Rainforest. Apparently the furry fella wanted no part of that climate or the isolation because shortly after being collared with a monitor and released he broke free from his constraints and wandered back towards civilization, closer to his human counterparts. After further consideration, Clover was deemed unfit (unwilling?) to live in the Central Northwestern BC wild and the decision was made to bring him here to the Thompson River region to live his many years to come in the welcome arms of the BC Kamloops Wildlife Park.

The way some see it, THIS may be the only parking option available. Good luck relocating your business w/that trunk space.

Staff at our Kamloops Moving Company browsed local periodical The Kamloops Daily News yesterday which reported on a downtown Kamloops forum that took place this week addressing the concern over a lack of available parking in the city core of Kamloops. Neighborhood business owners, big and small, feel that there is a need to bring (i.e. build) a solution so that the public can better enter downtown Kamloops and stay to shop, dine, and enjoy other leisure activities without worrying about whether or not they will find parking to accommodate their tenure in town. As a Kamloops mover we sympathize with the business community on this matter.

Our Kamloops moving company kept a watchful eye on Kamloops’ bid to host the 2013 Ironman Canada triathlon. In addition to great exposure for the city of Kamloops as a whole, it certainly would have kept our Kamloops Moving and Storage company on its toes as the next summer season approached. Anytime a big event like that takes place in the region our Kamloops storage facilities are booked up to accommodate the short term needs of the temporary residents. However, as announced this week, the city failed to secure the bid.

As the summer winds down for the season (someone forgot to tell the weather) bears prepare for their season long slumber. When this happens, they stock up on food preserves in the same manner that us humans do before holiday season kicks in. But these feral grocery shoppers will be coming around the mountain and into our community to stock their bellies full.

The exceptionally warm summer saw an outbreak of bear sightings from the Nicola Valley to Kamloops region. BC Wildlife Park and McArthur Island Park has been owned by our thick furred neighbors through August and campers had to keep eyes and ears open day and night. Experts anticipate even more bear activity in and around Kamloops for the month of September and although incidences will likely remain uneventful for the most part (unless you disturb cubs) Kamloops residents should be mindful.

So what does this have to do with our Kamloops moving company blog?

The last two months have been drought inducing weeks with barely a drop of rain in sight and while Kamloops tourism is beaming from tourists gracing the city to play on the rolling hilled golf courses and to cool off by taking dips in the Thompson River, the terrain surrounding Kamloops remains susceptible to forest fires. Fresh water fishing is a big deal in Kamloops. In fact, it’s most likely the Thompson Country region’s favorite pastime and the Kamloops area lakes are known to be the best fly fishing lakes in BC. Some will say the best in the country.
