Tips for a Stress-Free Long-Distance Move Over the Holiday Season

A long-distance move can be stressful no matter what time of year.  Add in the busy schedule of the holiday season coupled with a December moving date and you can get the perfect storm.  However, with the right type of foresight and planning you can still enjoy all that the holidays have to offer, while minimizing the stress of a long-distance move.  As your premier Kamloops movers, here are our top tips on how to move stress-free this holiday season.

Time it Right

A successful holiday move is a well-planned move.  Start planning all aspects of the long-distance move as early as you possibly can.  Time management is key so try to formulate a step-by-step plan and be sure to include every detail.  By managing your time, you will be able to not only reduce your anxiety and stress levels, you will also be able to enjoy the busy holiday season.

When setting your schedule and long-distance moving plan, make sure to include the following information:

  • A detailed plan of when you are packing each room.
  • A checklist that includes the contents of each box and a place to store these boxes (the garage perhaps).
  • Different piles where you can put items that you are not going to be taking with you. Look at the moving process as an opportunity to declutter you and your family’s life.
  • Pack all the non-essentials far in advance to reduce the number of items you are packing during the holidays.

Be a Minimalist

Just because you are moving doesn’t mean that you need to be a Scrooge this holiday season.  Again, pack strategically but keep a minimal amount of decorations handy for your home.  You may want to put up a tree depending upon your moving date – this you can decide, but you can decorate it minimally and still enjoy the twinkle of Christmas lights.

Smell the Holly

Once the final box has been unloaded and you have unpacked each room’s essentials box, put the remainder of the move on pause and enjoy what is left of the holidays.  Make yourself a warm cup of hot chocolate, put on some Christmas carols and enjoy the unpacking process.  Whatever gets done gets done and the rest…well tomorrow is another day.

These simple moving tips will allow you to enjoy the holidays and manage the stress of the move.  If you would like more information on these or other holiday moving tips or are interested in the long-distance moving services that we provide, please contact us today.  We would love to be a part of your next move and look forward to working with you soon.
