Learn The Triple S Method Before You Pack

Kamloops Movers provide packing strategy

One of the most common reactions we get when unloading our trucks into a new home is, “I can’t believe we have so much stuff!” Whether the new space is smaller or larger than their previous abode, people tend to underestimate the quantity of their belongings, and more likely than not, end up feeling overwhelmed.

We recommend taking a little time before you pack to sort through items following the Triple S Method. Short for Save, Storage, Say Bye-Bye; this simple method of packing applies perfectly for people moving into a new home in Kamloops. With this approach you pack the necessities for your new home, put away items that you want to hold onto but don’t use very often, and clear out clutter that you don’t want to haul with you to your new home.

To stay organized, we like to label items with sticky notes to make it clear which category they fall into. As you survey your home, start marking items. Blue for items you want to save, yellow for those that are headed to storage… You get the picture.

Think realistically as you label. How does your new home in Kamloops compare to your current residence? Furniture that won’t fit or is in bad condition should be given away. You won’t want to crowd your new space from day one. Items that you know won’t fit but you’re not ready to part with should be placed in storage. This way you can make the decision later whether or not the items have a place in your new life.

When it comes to clothes, the rule is if you haven’t worn it in a year, it’s time to go. Apply this to your closet and you will be surprised by how many things you can give away! Donating clothes is a great way to give back to the Kamloops community, and clear out some clutter at the same time. Clothing that is only used once or twice a year, such as ski gear, are the pieces you want to send to storage. These bulky items take up tons of closet space and will be kept just as nicely in a climate-controlled storage unit as they would in your home.

Decorations and knickknacks are others items that take up tons of room in our moving trucks, and cause headaches for moving Kamloops residents. Finding a place for every picture frame, every piece of memorabilia, and each vase is not as easy as it might seem. Pick items that will play a crucial role in decorating your new home, and part with the rest. If you’re holding on to trophies and awards from your kids’ childhoods (or even your own) you may want to reevaluate how many memories you need to hold onto. Consider placing the majority of these items in storage to take out on special occasions when you want a trip down memory lane.

If you’re moving to Kamloops and use our Triple S Method, let us know how it worked. We’d love to hear from you!
