Leaves are changing colour, weather is transitioning, and you are moving. Fall is an excellent time to move, especially if you do not have kids or are moving close by, where they won’t need to switch schools. Why is it so great? Mostly, because the weather is in it’s mild stage and you won’t be sweating all day while carrying boxes.
This being said, there are some things to keep in mind and we, as Kamloops movers, have some tips for you to consider.
Don’t leave the leafs
First and foremost, you need to remember that leaves are falling and a lot. You will have to make sure that your driveway is raked, your gutters are cleaned out (in both houses) and your backyard is also neat, especially if you are selling your old home.
One very important reason you shouldn’t let leaves get out of hand, is because they can get very slippery. Now, imagine walking with a huge box of plates and slipping on a lovely fallen leaf – not fun, right? To prevent this and potential injuries, take the above advice about cleaning out the leaves very seriously.
Do check the weather
While the weather in the beginning of the fall can be mild, it can also be unpredictable. Just because last year was really warm the first weekend of October, doesn’t mean it will be so again, so look at the predictions in advance.
If it does rain, for example, be sure that you haven’t packed away all of your rain gear and the moving company or you have rain protection for your furniture, as well as a windbreaker and boots for yourself. You may be outside for some time, and the last thing you’d want, would be to get sick, right when you need to unpack at your new place.
Don’t postpone too much
Now, a good idea is probably to move in the beginning of fall, since it will get much colder and much less comfortable to move later on in the year. A good weekend to pick could be Thanksgiving weekend in October. While we do want to spend time with our family, it will also give you an extra day to unpack, without having to take any vacation time off!
Do enjoy the drive
Finally, we know that a move can be stressful, but the beauty of the changing tree colours and Canada’s nature display during the fall, should make the experience a lot more pleasant. So if you are driving to your new home, take your time and enjoy the view along the way!
